Sharpless 88 is located about 4 degrees from M27 in the constellation Vulpecula. It is a diffuse nebula excited by the star HD 338916, the brightest star in the blue center of the nebula. The two smaller nebulas to the lower left of Sh2-88 are LBN 138 (the left one) and LBN 137. At the lower left edge is another round nebula with a rather obscure name: GM 3-11, discovered by Armenian astronomers Gyulbudaghian and Maghakian in 1977. This is a 10-hour H,O,S narrowband image rendered using the Hubble palette.
