Here is the Horsehead Nebula and Flame Nebula region presented as a monochrome image. To the lower left of the Horsehead is nebula NGC 2023 while the entire lower left of the image is filled by NGC 2024, the Flame Nebula. The bright star above the Flame Nebula is Alnitak, the left-most star in the "belt" of Orion. North points to the left in this image. This is a two-frame mosaic taken with a 140mm refractor with 5 hours of H-alpha exposure for the right pane and 2 hours for the left.
