The Veil Nebula is a large circular supernova remnant in the constellation Cygnus. This is an image of the bright western section. Usually this object is displayed upside-down from this orientation and is popularly known as The Witch's Broom, but I discovered recently that when oriented this way it is also known as The Firebird, because it looks like a blue bird flying at the viewer accompanied by red flames. The bright star (which is 52 Cygni) might be considered the "head".

This is a bicolor narrowband image consisting of 5 hours of H-alpha, 7 hours of O-III, and one hour of RGB for the stars.
