This spectacular nebula lies in the region around the southern hemisphere star Eta Carina, the brightest star in this image, near the center. This nebula is larger and brighter than that northern showpiece, the Orion Nebula M42. As this image shows, it is very detailed and complex. There are several notable open clusters here. Near the star Eta Carina, mostly to its lower left, is cluster Trumpler 16. To the upper right of Eta Carina, about a third of the way to the edge of the image, is small cluster Trumpler 14. At the top center of the image (right at the edge) is Trumpler 15.

This is a narrowband image rendered in natural colors with just 90 minutes of total exposure.
