The long horizontal structure in the upper left of this image is known, due to its shape, as the Elephant's Trunk Nebula, officially called IC 1396A. It is located in a much larger roundish nebula called IC 1396, part of whose circular arc runs from upper left to lower right in this image. Both IC 1396A and IC 1396 are energized by the triple star HD 206267, the brightest star in this image (to the right of the end of the Elephant's Trunk). This is a 6.5-hour narrowband image with (4, 1.5, 1) hours of H,O,S exposure.
